We chose to place our children in the GEMS International School because it offers the IB curriculum and boasts modern

and excellent facilities. The school offers diversity among both teachers and students and we love that!

We got the impression, that the IB system is the system that best deals with individual learning styles per student.

We think the weekly communication from both the class teacher and the school is very informative. We appreciate

the different styles of parents / teacher / student conferences.

We very much like the MAP tests. We find them very informative and really like the holistic way the teachers'

statements are based on the development of the student more than a snapshot of where the student is right now.

Our Curriculum

Our curriculum fits into the International Baccalaureate® (IB) framework and is informed

by best practices in teaching and learning. The academic program is rooted in the core

curricula of language and literature (English and Arabic), mathematics, integrated sciences

and individuals and societies. This core is enriched by specialist courses in language

acquisition, the arts (including visual art, music and drama), physical health education, and

design. Learning is often organized through ‘inquiries’ that transcend traditional subject

areas to develop deeper understandings and a wider array of skills. Through the formal

curriculum and other activities throughout the day, our students will learn, display and

eventually embody the attributes of the IB Learner Profile.

The IB exhibits every facet of an ideal system of standards, curriculum and assessments.

It is a passport to the finest universities in the world, and is a qualification that challenges

and inspires students to become caring, meticulous and disciplined thinkers. In delivering

the IB we give our students statistically the best possible chance of gaining places in top

universities. The IB was created in the latter part of the twentieth century in order to create

a curriculum that provides for the modern world. It is based on modern understandings

of how students learn and how best to support that learning. The curriculum helps foster

a culture at GEMS International, which recognizes the importance of positivity, the

importance of developing students so that they learn how to succeed, and the importance

of understanding that failure is only a temporary state on the road to further success and

development.

Mutual respect and tolerance are at the core of life at GEMS International. We are committed

to relationships among all members of our community that support the School’s mission and

encourage dignity, respect, understanding and acceptance. We recognize the importance

of the language and culture of the UAE and promote these at all times. Students are

encouraged to recognize their obligations to each other and to the world as well as their

ability to make a positive difference.

The Google Sketch up project allowed

students to design their own 3D simulated city.

Technology provides wonderful opportunities

for real time learning and connecting with

experts across the globe.
